The Black surname is one with several possible British Isle origins. The surname is however commonly researched and found to be of Scottish heritage. The name is associated with three Scottish Clans; Lamont, MacLean and MacGregor. Black is however associated most often in history with the Clan MacGregor and their turbulent past.
